Fresh off the heels of their skyrocketing momentum, indie rock outfit Wishy are officially back. The band has announced their highly anticipated sophomore album, Nature’s Pill, scheduled to drop on 2 October via Winspear.
To anchor the announcement, Wishy has delivered the album’s breathtaking lead single, ‘Lovesick’.
Fronted by the swooning, crystalline vocals of Nina Pitchkites, the track plays out like a brilliant homage to late-80s and early-90s indie-pop perfection. It balances a bright, driving rhythm with a distinctly nostalgic atmosphere, evoking The Cure at their most pop-forward and The Sundays at their absolute most buoyant. Pitchkites’ vocal delivery glides effortlessly over jangling, melodic guitar lines, cementing “Lovesick” as an instant standout in the band’s growing catalog.

Sonic Breakdown: A Fuzzed-Out Masterclass in Dream-Pop Bliss
On “Lovesick,” the standout lead single from their sophomore record Nature’s Pill, the Indianapolis five-piece Wishy delivers a shimmering, high-energy slice of alternative rock that feels like a sun-drenched time capsule. Built around the dual songwriting and vocal chemistry of Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites, the track relies on a perfect mix of 1990s shoegaze textures and early 2000s crossover alt-pop melodicism.
The instrumentation is incredibly vibrant, driving forward with a shaggy, propulsive drum groove and a thick, rhythmic bass line that keeps the track anchored. Wishy weaves spinning fuzz-rock feedback and swirling, delay-soaked guitar riffs around an infectious, twee-pop vocal melody. Rather than sinking under the weight of heavy distortion, the guitars carry a bright, dizzying sparkle that perfectly mimics the chemical rush of infatuation. The radio edit expertly tightens the structure, bringing the soaring, symbiotic vocal harmonies right to the front and keeping the energy tightly wound from start to finish.
The Rainbow Rocks Perspective: LGBTQIA+ Themes & Representation
For listeners tracking queer representation and voice within the modern indie rock revival, Wishy brings a vital and authentic perspective directly from the heart of the Midwest.
Co-vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter Kevin Krauter is openly bisexual and non-binary, embracing both he/him and they/them pronouns. Krauter’s journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with navigating identity against a traditional Midwestern backdrop, having grown up in a devout religious community that initially obscured his reality. Coming out and unlearning that conditioned repression has been a liberating force in Krauter’s life and writing, injecting his music with a proud sense of emotional freedom and self-preservation. Additionally, co-vocalist Nina Pitchkites has highlighted her connection to queer creative spaces, feeding off the community’s experimentation with performance, format, and gender play to help shape the band’s vibrant, rule-breaking ethos.
While “Lovesick” is intentionally playful and cheekily “main character” in its melodramatic, yearning lyricism, it captures a core theme that deeply resonates with LGBTQIA+ individuals: the radical choice to boldly embrace your emotions, desires, and imagination in a world that can often feel hostile. By filtering the universal experience of romantic fixation through a chaotic, ecstatic wall of dream-pop sound, Wishy crafts a sonic haven. Backed by an authentic undercurrent of queer and non-binary identity, the track stands as a triumphant reminder that choosing to live out loud, dive headfirst into your feelings, and find joy in the madness is a beautiful act of resilience.
