On February 17, 2026, the world lost the Rev. Jesse Jackson at the age of 84. While history books will rightfully center his work alongside Dr. King, we in the LGBTQIA+ community mourn a pioneer who spoke our names when doing so was considered political suicide.
From his radical “Rainbow Quilt” speech in 1984 to standing on the front lines of the 1987 March on Washington, Jackson provided the blueprint for intersectional liberation. He understood that you cannot have racial justice without queer liberation, and that the Law of the Land must be a shield for all, not a sword for some. As we face new waves of “policy violence” today, we honor his legacy by continuing the fight with the same “relentlessness that will not be denied” that he modeled for six decades.
The Lion is at rest, but the Coalition is louder than ever.
