Acclaimed queer Americana and indie-folk singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt has officially released her newest single, “The Aftermath,” serving as the final preview of her upcoming 10-track sophomore-follow-up album, Fools for the Fleeting, slated for a September 18 release via Rounder Records. Known for her fearless, deeply resonant storytelling addressing LGBTQ+ life, identity, and personal truth, Pruitt uses her platform to spotlight the intersections of emotional vulnerability and the broader sociopolitical landscape.

Produced by Isaiah Beard, “The Aftermath” was written in the wake of the end of a significant seven-year relationship. Rather than existing solely as a traditional breakup ballad, the track expands into a poignant reflection on personal heartbreak set against the backdrop of a world experiencing widespread uncertainty and upheaval.

As Pruitt eloquently connects her own experience of grief to the collective weight of living through massive cultural shifts, the track ultimately carves out a vital space for resilience. “The Aftermath came from trying to pick up the pieces after a breakup while also living through massive cultural change,” Pruitt shares. “We’re all living in the aftermath of so much upheaval in our country, and it feels really important to find whatever little ways we can to take care of ourselves and each other.”
